PARISH MINISTRY MEETING – 19 JULY 2006
Father Charles welcomed all those who attended and thanked them for their
great work and commitment to date. The people covered various ministries
and all the Masses of the parish.
Father Charles encouraged the creation
of a core liturgy group for the parish.

Points raised by those present for the core liturgy group to consider
Core liturgy group to meet monthly to make strategic plans for the liturgy
to help prepare and co-ordinate liturgy across the parish.
All liturgy meetings should be open to all parishioners.
It is important that everyone involved in the liturgy has an input/communication with the core liturgy group.
Every mass should have liturgy preparation mid week prior to that Sunday.
Maryland - people already meet every week at someone’s house.
Neo-cats – Word of God, meet regularly and everything comes together.
There should be a leader (rotated). Use the Bible as a background.
Environmental elements must be involved – Flowers/Banners/Lectern/Art.
Mass should include more teaching on liturgical elements, sign and symbols,
introductions to the Liturgy of the Word.
Liturgy should be well prepared with good appropriate music. The music should
be excellent and not over simplified but it is essential people understand
it and participate. Song words on PowerPoint can help the congregation sing
out.
Focus on building up the community:
welcoming
flower arrangement
music and worship
ministers of the word
collectors
ministers of the Eucharist
hospitality.
Need to ask the Parish to pray for direction as part of the Bidding Prayers
in order to keep liturgy renewal foremost in their minds.
Future
Fr Charles highlighted his mission focus – To draw out the good in everyone
together and to recognise those talents both within the Mass and to establish
the core liturgy group.
The further meeting on 5 September 2006 should ensure the presence of current liturgists and allow a core group to be formed.
Massive publicity in bulletin/website is required. This will ensure that
the whole Parish recognises the importance of participation in the liturgy.
Fr Charles stated he was open to any system provided it worked towards greater
inclusion and it may not be restricted to Sunday Mass. We must not have pre-conceived
ideas but be open to all to know what is possible. It was recognised that
people are busy and there is a shortage of time. He posed three questions
for everyone to consider over the summer:-
Q1 -
|
What kind of structure should the core group have?
|
Q2 -
|
How can we get others to join us?
|
Q3 -
|
Should we have specific masses, for example 9.30 family and 11.00 quiet or should all masses be the same?
