40th Anniversary Celebrations at St. John Fisher School 22nd June 2005
We had a wonderful week of celebrations at St John Fisher School:
Monday – parents invited
to spend the day working alongside their children and joining them for a
picnic lunch in the beautiful playing fields.
Tuesday – Key Stage One Sports’ Day – attended by all the parents with the PTA proving refreshments for all.
Wednesday – Feast of St John Fisher! Bishop
James O’Brien celebrated a beautiful Mass for the whole school community
with friends, past pupils, staff and dignitaries – the Deputy Mayor of St.
Albans, Mrs. Eileen Harris and members from the Education Department. The
Mass was followed by the planting of three silver birch trees.
The Silver Birch is a native tree of Poland. We wanted to have a memorial to our late Holy Father – John Paul II.
The Honorary Consulate from the Polish Embassy brought us some soil from
Jasna Gora in Poland – the soil was put in with the three trees.
We hope that in the future the school will build an outdoor classroom around the trees.
Bishop
George Stack visited the school in the afternoon and blessed a commemorative
window – after enjoying a contemporary re-enactment of the life of St John Fisher!
We
were honoured to have two Bishops visit on this special day – reminiscent
of both saints – John Fisher and Thomas More!
Again friends, parents, staff and pupils enjoyed a “ family” picnic lunch.
Thursday – Key Stage
Two Sports Day in the morning followed by a real treat for the children in
the afternoon - a performance of “The Snow Queen”.
Friday – A 60s concert across the school – including “ Elvis “ and “ The Beatles”. School closed at 1.30 p.m.
It was a week to remember!

About St John Fisher School St
John Fisher RC Primary School was founded to provide for the educational
needs of Catholic families in the northern part of the parish of SS Alban
and Stephen, and remains a part of the Catholic Church.
Built in 1965, St John Fisher is a single storey building with easy access.
The outdoor facilities consists of a large playing field, a Foundation Stage/Key
Stage 1 playground and a Key Stage 2 playground. As part of a school grounds
project launched in May 1996, a pond and nature area were created and the
addition of low level play equipment helped extend both playgrounds.
The school has a large assembly hall that is used for worship, PE and music.
A separate dining room extends from the school entrance and library. The
latter was opened in 1990 by His Eminence Cardinal Basil Hume, as part of
the school's Silver Jubilee celebrations.
