Pentecost Sunday, May 2002:   Mass and Evensong at St Leonard's, Sandridge

The communities of St Leonard's, Sandridge, Ss Alban & Stephen Church, and the Marshalswick Mass Centre shared an evening of prayer and celebration on Pentecost Sunday.  Starting with Mass at 5pm, a brief "birthday interlude" thereafter, and then on to Evensong at 6.15pm, we once again shared an enjoyable ecumenical celebration with our Anglican brothers and sisters.

Pentecost is a significant day in our calendar.
The readings were led and dramatised by The Voice  ".. they were filled with the holy spirit, and began to speak foreign languages.." and "..devout men in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven .." was enacted by The Voice saying "Hello" in 12 languages, and coming forward to the table with flags of all nations.

Inkeeping with the theme, the Lord's Prayer was said in German: Vater unser im Himmel, Geheiligt werde Dein Name. Dein Reich komme. Amen, and
The Voice "signed" the Communion song - Bread of Life.

Our Mass was celebrated by Father Danny, and as part of our ecumenical celebration, Rev John Horner from St Leonard's read the Gospel.

After Mass, we had a short  break, where we enjoyed cake and wine, to celebrate the "Birthday of the Church", during which time our respective communities had an opportunity to get to know each other more.
After this break, many of us stayed to share Evensong with our brothers and sisters from St Leonard's, and we enjoyed music from the St Leonard's robed choir, and preaching by the former chaplain to the University of Hertfordshire.

Many thanks to all those involved in making this celebration a special occasion, particularly to John Horner, Father Danny and The Voice.
