Sacramental Chaplains In addition, Fr Jerry Daly and other priests local to the hospitals sites provide a a 24 hour ‘on-call’ service in case of emergency. The sacramental chaplains can be requested through Lynn, for Reconciliation or the Sacrament of the Sick, or in an emergency, via the hospital switchboard.

Help us to help you - In order to get the best care please ensure, on admission to hospital, that your Catholic religion is registered and please give your consent that this information be passed to the Spiritual and Pastoral Care Department. If you would like a Chaplain to visit please ask ward staff to contact Lynn. You may also do this on behalf of someone else if you are a relative.

Fr Jerry Daly MSC was ordained in 1957, and had a very varied career, working in both South Africa and Indonesia. He returned to his native Ireland in 1967, where he worked as a vocations director for two years before travelling across the water to Stoke-on-Trent in 1969, where he stayed for two years before becoming rector at SS Alban & Stephen Church in 1971. Fr Jerry’s time in St Albans was marked by real growth and achievement. The first Parish Council was formed, the Friends of Maryland was formed, as well as fundraising for the Marshalswick Mass Centre. Fr Jerry was here for seven years until 1978 when he moved on, firstly to work in Tamworth for seven years and then a further twelve in South Africa. But after an absence of twenty one years, Father Jerry was back in St Albans and has been here ever since.

Services at the Hospitals.
Mass is celebrated at Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday at 1.00 pm in the hospital chapel (Jubilee Wing by the back of A&E).

Mass is also celebrated at Watford General at 1.15pm on Thursday

Everyone is most welcome to attend.  After each Mass a team of Eucharistic Minsiters take Holy Communion to patients at their bedside.

Other Help  Few people look forward to a stay in hospital, but if it becomes necessary, it is important that they are well cared for. That good care includes providing for spiritual, pastoral and religious needs. The Spiritual and Pastoral Care Department is a multi-faith service committed to the care of patients, staff and visitors of all faiths (or of none), and Lynn Bassett, the priests and the other Chaplains offer a friendly face, a listening ear, a chance to share thoughts and concerns as well as prayer, religious and sacramental care. They can provide support in coping with illness, bereavement, caring for others, workplace problems - or simply when you need someone to talk to. Everything is held in strictest confidence.
