Churches Together

Through the Church and the Marshalswick Mass Centre, our parish is involved in two Churches Together organisations

There are many different Christian churches and denominations, but all have the same basic calling: to worship God, to share the good news about Jesus Christ and to work for the good  of all people.  So they often need to work together - and to co-ordinate the work they each do separately.  When they do, they are acting as Churches Together.

For both St Albans and Marshalswick, the role of Churches Together is to help and encourage the Churches to work more closely together in their work and witness.   In St Albans and Marshalswick (as in the other 1200 places in England where local churches have formed themselves into ecumenical groupings, usually called "Churches Together in .."), local Christians engage in a wide variety of activities together – meeting for worship, discussion, prayer and practical service in the community.

But being Churches Together means more than that.  It means commitment by each church and denomination to deepen its fellowship with the others, and - without losing what makes each interestingly different - to work with them towards a greater visible unity.
