Divinity and Doughnuts is for people in their twenty somethings and thirty somethings
who wish to explore their faith in light of the world today
It’s an opportunity to meet together
as a group, listen to stimulating speakers and discuss the issues over coffee
and a doughnut.
Here are the details of our next season (Lent 2010) of talks
‘Show us your face Lord'’
8pm Wednesday February 24th
Fr Diarmuid O'Murchu will speak on the subject of the renewed search for
God in our world today.
Diarmuid is a member of the Sacred Heart Missionary Order,
and a social psychologist. He’s worked as a counsellor, in bereavement
work, AIDS-HIV counselling, and with homeless people and refugees. He’s also
facilitated Adult Faith Formation programs in Europe, North America, Africa,
Asia and Australia. He has written numerous books including Quantum
Theology, Reclaiming Spirituality, Evolutionary Faith, Catching Up with Jesus,
The Transformation of Desire, Ancestral Grace and Jesus in the Power of Poetry.
8pm Wednesday
March 10th
“Just as different rivers have sources in different places all pour their
waters into the sea, so O Lord, the different paths which people with their
different tendencies take, varied though they are, crooked or straight all
lead to you.”
Fr. Tom Hewitt joined the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart
in 1970. Since then he has served as a priest, a teacher and a missionary,
‘with varying degrees of success and failure,’ as he would say himself. In
recent years Tom has been fascinated by the journey of faith of Bede Griffiths,
a British Benedictine monk and missionary who lived in ashrams in South India.
Tom is currently a student of Christianity and Interreligious Relations at
Heythrop College, London. Last Christmas he spent time in India in two Christian
Ashrams, Kurisimala and Shantivanam exploring how we can harmonise spiritual
and world views.
8pm Wednesday
March 24th
Dr Ronan Wall - Science and Religion: Best of Buddies
After graduating from the University of Manchester in 2001
with a PhD in Nuclear Physics, Ronan has been working in the space industry.
His talk will contest, with your help, that science and religion are, far
from being incompatible, actually interdependent searches for meaning and
truth.
8pm Wednesday April 7th
Our last event of the season is an evening of prayer and reflection.
The theme of the evening is “Show us your face, Lord” which is also the
theme for our season of talks. There will be an opportunity to share
our thoughts on prayer followed by a time of prayer and reflection in small
groups.
All talks will take place in the Parish
Hall of Ss Alban and Stephen’s Church, 14 Beaconsfield Road, St Albans,
Hertfordshire, AL1 3RB. They will begin at 8:00pm and finish around 9:30pm.
