It is with great fondness and sadness that we’re about to
say goodbye to Hymns Old & New. Some of us call them the blue books; some
Sundays we only get a yellow cover copy (with the 700s hymns missing!); some
Sundays we find a dedication in the inner front cover to someone we know
– the Hymns Old & New have become part of our fabric.
2013 sees the arrival of a new hymn book – Laudate - brand new, fresh, containing
many more hymns and published with the New English Translation in mind. We’re
very excited about Laudate being in the pews before the end of May, and a
big thank you to the Parish Worship group, especially Julia White for her
tireless work in driving this forward and to Fr. Charles and the Finance Committee
for supporting what is a significant financial commitment.
Singing hymns at Sunday Mass, as well as at weddings, funerals and other
events is a part of our Catholic worship, and we’re sure that Laudate will
quickly become part of our church lives.
As we did with Hymns Old & New, we’re offering parishioners the opportunity
to dedicate a book (or books) to a loved one, perhaps a deceased relative
or friend, maybe to an organisation or charity which means something to us.
We hope you’d agree that a small contribution, perhaps of £5 per book,
would be appropriate for this – it would certainly be a great help to the
Parish in offsetting the costs so far.
We’ll be saying more about this at all the Masses one Sunday in June and
explaining more about how we plan to go about this.
