The New Parish Hall
- Refurbished and re-opened in November 2013
The new entrance, meeting
rooms, kitchen, toilets (upstairs and downstairs), lift and church hall are
open! Do visit them.
A gentle ramp and automatic double glass doors welcome you into the new facilities.
The new larger lift, providing easy access to the hall on the first floor,
is located to your right as you come into the entrance. Alternatively, stairs
to your left will also take you up the first floor.
As you leave the lift on the first floor, you enter a landing which provides
access to three new toilets (including a disabled toilet facility), the kitchen
and the hall itself. The kitchen is far more spacious than the one we had
previously and is kitted out with stainless steel tops, oven, microwave,
fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing facilities. Two hatches open to the
The facilities downstairs are accessed through a second set of
automatic double glass doors. Through these you enter a pleasant seating
area with a café bar for serving refreshments, together with tables
and chairs. This area also houses a ramp for wheel-chair access to the church.
A large glass window provides a view into the church. Downstairs toilets
are located behind the coffee bar.
There are also two adjacent meeting rooms downstairs,
one will hold approximately twenty and the other about ten people. The separating
wall consists of sliding doors, which can be opened to create a single larger
On Saturday 23rd November, a large team of volunteers
turned out to clean all of the rooms, erect new tables for the coffee area
downstairs and to clean and replace furniture and a large number of other
items that had been stored elsewhere whilst the facilities were being refurbished.
They also made sure that the coffee and tea making facilities were in working
The new facilities were blessed
and opened by Bishop John Sherrington following a concelebration of Mass
at 6.00 p.m. in the church on Saturday, 30 November. This was followed by
the first social gathering in the hall, where wine and snacks were available,
with coffee and tea being served from the new café bar downstairs.
Since then, a number of events have been held in the new facilities, including
a Neighbourhood Links meeting and a showing of the film ‘Elf’ in the hall.
The facilities have received much positive comment; particularly appreciated
is the new lift providing easy access to the first floor.
Whilst there are still a few snagging issues to address, the hall and meetings
rooms are open and are getting booked for events for 2014. We hope that the
new facilities will be widely used.
We would love to see the coffee area used after each mass and during the
week when people can come and have a get together. The hall, now with its
new kitchen, is suitable for an after funeral function or for a baptism party.
Please enjoy the photos below, come in and have a look and, if you need to
book a room for an event, please contact Gina Procaccini the Parish Secretary
on firstname.lastname@example.org or (01727) 853585.
